Privacy Policy

Overview

Chessabit is a chess study habit tracker. We collect only what is needed to run the service. We do not sell your data, run ads, or share your information with third parties beyond what is described below.

What we collect

Account information
Your email address and a hashed (never plain-text) password. We also store whether your email has been verified.

Profile information
Chess platform (Chess.com or Lichess), your username on that platform, your self-reported rapid rating, experience level, and timezone. All optional and editable at any time.

Study data
Your study settings (daily minutes goal, topic split, rest days), the study blocks generated for your schedule, completion records, and your daily history. This is the core data the app uses to track your progress.

Game Review notes
Notes, tags, and optional game URLs you enter when logging a game review. These are visible only to you.

Friends and social data
If you use the Friends feature, we store your unique friend code and any friend connections you establish. When you are connected with a friend, they can see your display name (your chess username if set, otherwise the portion of your email before the @), your current study streak, total minutes studied, and study level. Your email address and game review notes are never visible to friends. You can remove any friend connection at any time from the Friends page.

What we do not collect

We do not collect device identifiers, location data, browsing history, or any data beyond what you explicitly enter. We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

How we use your data

Your data is used solely to provide the Chessabit service: generating your study schedule, tracking your progress, calculating streaks and badges, and storing your game review notes. We do not use your data for marketing or share it with advertisers.

Third-party services

Resend — We use Resend to send transactional emails (email verification and password reset). Your email address is transmitted to Resend for this purpose only. Resend's privacy policy is available at resend.com/privacy.

Hosting — Chessabit is hosted on Railway. Your data is stored on Railway's infrastructure. Railway's privacy policy is available at railway.app/legal/privacy.

Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below.

Children's privacy

Chessabit is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your rights

You can update or delete your profile information at any time from the Settings page. To request full account deletion, email us at support@chessabit.com.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
